Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) 2025/26 – (funded by NIHR SC RRDN)
We are recruiting 5 VCSE organisations that support Black communities across South Central England, to engage with research regarding Sickle Cell and related health conditions. Participating VCSE’s will be invited to become part of the Research Collaborative and co-lead workshops with the Southampton Centre for Research Engagement and Impact. Funding of £2,500 is available to organisations to support engagement with their communities.
This project aims to:
- Explore genetic and environmental risk factors for common and rare health conditions affecting Black communities
- Drive improvements in health outcomes for people with sickle cell by building a world-leading sickle cell genomics research resource
- Raise awareness of sickle cell and advocate for better patient-centred research, treatments and care
- Create a re-contactable group of volunteers willing to participate in future relevant health research
