Research Collaborative – October Event Recap

The RViR Research Collaborative, is an extension of the RViR programme, dedicated to increasing diverse involvement in health and care research by working with historically underserved communities.

Our collaborative serves as a hub and safe space for:

  • Bridging the gap between researchers, research organisations and communities (Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations) and those with lived experience.
  • Sharing research and research opportunities for involvement.
  • Exchanging insights and best practice to make research more inclusive.

This initiative is supported by Action Hampshire, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and the Engaging Communities Research Centre, University of Winchester.

15th October Session Highlights

The October Research Collaborative session was co-hosted by Caroline Tiza (UHS FT) and public partner Berenice (Berry) Toucan from Board in the City. We were delighted to welcome a diverse mix of community groups, researchers, and members of the public, including many first-time attendees.

The event featured insightful presentations, rich discussions and valuable networking opportunities. One highlight was Imogen Fecher-Jones,Perioperative Advanced Nurse Practitioner / Research Fellow, who shared her experience in Diary of a Doctoral Student: Overcoming challenges to inclusive recruitment. Imogen provided background on her study in virtual pre-operative education, and explored the challenges of public engagement and recruitment, and how these were successfully overcome. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to our speakers for their excellent contributions.
